Despite growing up with African print fabric, I find myself shying away from the vibrant and bold colors. I started Thrifty Upenyu (Shona for life) because I figured I couldn't be the only one that loves African Fabric but is overwhelmed by it.
I am on a mission to find and present to you the less common prints, you know the black and whites, the tans and brick colored ones, the ones that will not look out of place or clash with your style or wardrobe. Just enough color and drama will be added to your wardrobe with the accessories I sew.
I sew every piece in my home studio, creating while my toddler naps and plays - a tricky balancing act. My work reflects places and people both local and global.
